Bathed by the blue waters of the Mediterranean, the Lycian Peninsula is a part of Turkey's Turquoise Coast, a region famous for its wonderfully rugged scenery, friendly people and great archaeological interest. From Antalya, we head south to enjoy some of the best hiking on parts of the recently opened Lycian Way. During the first couple of days, we trek through summer shepherds' settlements and have the option to make the challenging ascent to the summit of Mount Olympos (2388m / 7835ft) for a stunning panorama of coast and mountain. Then, from a comfortable beach hotel at Cirali, our continued exploration includes the simply stunning coastal walk to the picturesque Cape Gelidonia, with its iconic red and white striped lighthouses and sharks fin islets. As a suitably relaxing conclusion to this splendid trip, we will have a day-trip by boat to discover hidden bays, pirates' caves and deserted beaches - perfect for swimming.
Trip Guide
The Lycian Way is a recently established, waymarked path, which follows a mix of dirt roads, tracks and trails. Underfoot conditions are generally very good, as we hike for 5 or 6 hours on most days, with a rather longer day for those who choose to make the optional ascent of Mount Olympos. Our new itinerary includes 5 day-hikes on the best sections of the Lycian Way. There is a fair amount of up and down, although (aside from the Olympos ascent) this is a low level walk. With 5 nights at Cirali, this trip is very centred and participants will be able to make the most of the nearby beach and sea on a daily basis. The format of the trip means that group members will carry just a small day-sack during the walking.
