Walking trails above the Chamonix Valley - The French AlpsThis very enjoyable walking holiday in the Alps offers 6 days of guided trekking amongst the superlative scenery of the Chamonix Valley, France and the Mont Blanc Massif. Our walking routes in the Mont Blanc region of the French Alps are selected to provide diversity of length and trekking terrain. Walking through pine-scented forest and Alpine meadows, the trekking also leads us across high cols into wild Alpine valleys, with the ever-present backdrop of the famous mountains of the French Alps. Using walking guides with considerable local knowledge, we will explore some of the classic trekking of the Chamonix Valley such as the Brevent summit via the Col des Crochues, returning in the evenings to be pampered in our luxurious chalet base in Argentiere. As a climax to this walking holiday in the Alps, we will trek to the summit of Mont Buet (3100m/13168ft), from an overnight in the superbly situated Pierre Berard Refuge which boasts stunning views of Mont Blanc. This amazing week-long walking holiday provides the perfect introduction to Alpine trekking in Europe.

Mont Blanc Climbing Extension:
By adding just 3-days to your holiday, it is possible to include an ascent of Mont Blanc (4807m.), Europe's highest peak. See 'Trip dossier' for full details.

Trip Guide

This is a superb walking week at the heart of the European Alps. During the week, we will be choosing from a wide range of possible day-walks. These are all popular walks on good and well-marked trails. The average distance covered each day is around 10 to 15 kilometres6 to 9 miles and there is usually a fair amount of ascent and descent. However, the trip is intended as an introduction to Alpine walking and the routes have been chosen carefully to ensure that they are not too tough. Some of the day-walk options include cable-car lifts (either up or down) to allow us to access the most interesting areas more easily. In some instances, there might be the option for group members to make the day's walk even easier by taking advantage of additional cable-car lifts (not included in the itinerary above). Any such use of supplementary cable-car lifts would need to be paid for directly by the individual. Since this trip is comprised of a series of day-walks from our base in Argentiere, there is always the option to spend a rest day in the valley, rather than tackle the next day's walk, if you are feeling tired. Additionally, the day-walk format means that you do not need to carry more than a small daysack.
