demanding
The restricted area of Inner Dolpo, has a legendary, almost mythical status among the trekking community and even with Nepali people who live in the lower valleys. Home to the hardy salt traders depicted so well in Eric Vali's film 'Himalaya', the restriction on outsiders entering this area has meant village life and the Tibetan Buddhist culture of the Dolpa remains intact. This one-off trip for Spring 2008 offers the Connoisseur of Himalayan trekking the chance to visit the Tarap Valley in the heart of Dolpo, and to follow this with an exciting traverse to the Kali Gandakhi Valley, across high passes on the rarely visited north side of Dhaulagiri. With spectacular mountain views, high cultural interest, and an itinerary well off the beaten track, this special trip will appeal to the explorer in all of us.
Trip Guide
We have given this trip the Demanding grade on account of the time spent at altitudes above 4000 metres and the several near and over 5000m passes which must be crossed on the traverse from the Tarap to the Kali Gandakhi Valleys.
