An exciting family holiday in Asturias, on the quiet north west coast of Spain. The 'Costa Verde' or green coast, reminiscent of the Cornish coast with its steep sided river valleys running into sandy bays, has the Picos de Europa as its backdrop; the largest single mass of mountain limestone in Europe and the only true maritime range on the continent. The dramatic karst scenery, picturesque villages and fine beaches make this region an ideal destination for a family adventure. The region is also special on account of the local, rather Celtic, culture that continues to thrive in the towns and villages of the area. Home to some of Europe's most impressive wildlife species, including wolf, bear, chamois and griffon vulture, the Picos de Europa was Spain's first national park. In this new family adventure we have put together a range of activities and sightseeing that will make for an exciting, fun filled and memorable holiday. Canoeing on the Sella River and a leisurely morning’s horse riding or mountain biking provide our introduction to northern Spain’s family-friendly Asturias. We then hike to a mountain refuge on the slopes of the dramatic Picos de Europa for a day exploring and enjoying the amazing mountain views. Transferring to the ‘Costa Verde’, we will spend a free day on the beach, hunt for dinosaur footprints on a coastal walk, hike to a stunning 360 degree viewpoint and visit the caves close by Cangas de Onis, home to fine prehistoric paintings. A world away from the typical overcrowded and touristic costas, this is Spain with a difference!

Suitable for children aged 6 and up
This trip is a mix of sightseeing, activity and relaxation. No previous experience is required for the canoeing and horse riding elements. During the mountain bike option, the ride is on dirt trails with no technical sections and is suitable for youngsters who ride at home. The hiking involved is not difficult or demanding and it is suitable for children of 6 years and over, provided they are used to hiking at home. There are three day-hikes on the trip where we will be walking for up to 4 hours on each day. Overall the trip is designed to provide a mix of activities suitable for a wide age range and offers an excellent family holiday in a part of Spain little visited by English tourists and with a completely different feel to the popular resorts of the south coast.
