This brilliant family adventure holiday shows off southern Iceland’s unbelievable diversity of landscape, including geysers, icecaps, volcanoes and lots of impressive waterfalls. Using guesthouse and lodge accommodation, we will travel in rugged 4WD vehicles and be looked after by first-class Icelandic guides. From the vibrant capital city of Reykjavik, we will complete a clockwise circuit through Iceland's spectacular south-west, stopping off at many of the country's most dramatic natural phenomena and learning a little about the geological forces which continue to shape the landscape. After a visit to the geysers at Haukadalur and the waterfall of Gullfoss, we spend 2 nights within sight of Mount Hekla and take the opportunity to hike to the snowline on this infamously active volcano. We then drive across the beautiful Fjallabak wilderness, with a stop at Landmannalaugar for another short hike and a dip in the superb hot springs. Then, from a base in the south coast national park of Skaftafell, we have a guided visit to a puffin colony and also travel to the Glacier Lagoon, where we take a boat ride amongst the icebergs. Returning to Reykjavik, we have included an afternoon's whale-watching and the option of a last-minute dip in the Blue Lagoon. This is a magical family holiday.

Suitable for children age 6 and up.
Comfortable guesthouse and lodge accommodation with 4WD vehicles and moderate trekking make this trip suitable for children over the age of 6. There is enough diversity however to keep teenagers happy too, especially if looking to study geography. Just a short flight from the UK, Iceland provides an accessible and very different Family Adventure destination. There are 3 days on this trip where we have included an easy walk and each of these is optional. Iceland is at its best during the Summer Holidays
