A new trekking adventure holiday to India walking in the rarely visited Nubra Valley of Ladakh. North of Leh, the capital of Ladakh, beyond the Khardung La, the remote valley of Nubra has only quite recently been opened up to travellers and is essentially brand new as a trekking holiday destination. This fascinating region, lying in the shadow of Saser Kangri and the eastern Karakoram, is warmer and more fertile than the Indus Valley and has traditional ‘Silk Road’ trading links across high passes to Xinjiang Province of China. After acclimatising in the vicinity of Leh, we cross into Nubra where we have the chance to explore Samstaling and Diskit monasteries. Then, from Hundar, we'll then be trekking back into the Ladakh Range, following a seldom-used trail to isolated villages and walking through rugged gorges to reach the high grazing land beyond. The high point trekking wise is at the Lasermo La (5420m) where the views extend to the peaks of the eastern and central Karakoram. Cut off from the outside world by high passes, the Nubra Valley is one of the special places of the Ladakh Himalaya. Join our trekking holiday into the Nubra Valley and be one of the first to trek this part of Ladakh.
Trip Guide
This is a relatively short trek which mostly follows good trails between villages, although high up on our route we will encounter zig-zag paths on scree. This is also quite a high trek and trekking at altitudes above 4000 metres / 13,100 feet makes greater demands on the body than walking at low elevations, and is of itself challenging even for fit hikers. Our itinerary is well staged to allow the best possible acclimatisation and includes 3 days and nights in Leh (3500m / 11,480ft) before setting off on the trek. You will need to ensure you are physically prepared for the trek and you should be comfortable with walking for 4 to 6 hours each day, over several days continuously. This new trek should be within the capabilities of fit and active hikers. Because it is a relatively short trek, we have chosen to give it the MODERATE grade.
