KE clients now have the opportunity of fulfilling an Everest dream with this trip to the North Col. This Himalayan adventure will allow you to take part in an expedition on the World's highest mountain but without the huge expense and risks of a full summit attempt. To reach the North Col of Everest at over 7,000 metres is a challenge and a considerable achievement with the added bonus of superb views of the whole of the North Face of Everest. Although climbing at 7,000 metres is never easy, there are no technical difficulties on the route and this trip should appeal to anyone who has some experience of climbing at lower altitudes. KE will be offering three scheduled departures for this exciting trip in 2008.
Trip Guide
This is a strenuous trip, with the most difficult aspect being the extreme altitude. Whilst the ascent to the North Col is technically quite easy, requiring no special techniques or previous climbing experience, it is physically very demanding. To book this holiday you must have previous, successful trekking experience up to at least 5500 metres and you must be familiar with walking wearing crampons. All members will need to equip themselves with adequate warm clothing, appropriate climbing equipment and a thirst for adventure. Ski poles provide useful assistance over rocky sections of the approach to the mountain and in soft snow conditions. A single walking axe is all that is required if conditions are firmer. During this trip, the group will be supported by one or more experienced guides, as well as by a team of Sherpa guides and a full support and cook crew. We will also have pack animals (yaks) to assist with load carrying as far as Advance Basecamp.
