Grade 5
Known as the ‘Land of Fire and Ice’, Iceland is a weird and wonderful destination for adventure travel. The country’s finest trek, from the hot springs at Landmannalaugar to Porsmork, provides the basis of our unbeatable school group itinerary. Crossing the volcanic wilderness of the Fjallabak, by way of well-equipped campsites and with discreet vehicle support, this is 5 days of wonderfully diverse trekking in one of the most spectacular areas in the whole of Europe. Highlights include Mount Hekla, the Myrdalsjokull Icecap, beautiful Lake Alftavatn and the challenging final day of trekking over Fimmvorduhals Pass.

Educational perspective

Geothermal energy is never far from the surface in Iceland. It is used directly to provide cheap and sustainable power for the 250,000 inhabitants of the capital city of Reykjavik.

Amend or Extend
Include the ascent of volcanic Mount Hekla in your trip or take an excursion along the south coast to see the Glacier Lagoon at Jokulsarlon, scene of 2 James Bond films.
