Grade 3
Central amongst the countries of the Middle East, Jordan presents a wealth of geographical and historical interest for school groups. A chance to float in the Dead Sea makes a suitably surreal start to the trip, before heading south to spend 3 days exploring the sandstone peaks of Wadi Rum. Camping out in the desert here, as hosts of the Bedouin, is an unforgettable experience. Then, at the nearby Red Sea port of Aqaba, a glass-bottomed boat trip will reveal undersea wonders including multi-coloured reef fish. This outstanding Arabian adventure concludes with a visit to the awe-inspiring 2000 year old 'Rose Red City' of Petra.

A lot of history has been played out on Jordanian territory, from the time of the ancient Nabateans (who built Petra) to the First World War adventures of Lawrence of Arabia.

Amend or Extend
It is a simple matter to extend your trip, if you need more timeto explore the Nabatean ruins of Petra, or to include a visit to Jerash, site of the most impressive Roman city in the Middle East. As an alternative, you could add a contrasting day of hiking in Wadi ibn Hammad.
