Jannu & Kangchenjunga from the Singalila RidgeThe great adventure combines 2 short treks in the Eastern Himalaya - one in India and the other in Bhutan. East of Kangchenjunga, the Himalayan ranges extend through the former kingdom of Sikkim into the adjacent territory of Bhutan. Home to some of the world's best trekking, this spectacular region is the focus of a splendid 3-week holiday which combines 2 short treks and the chance to visit many historic towns, temples and monasteries. From the charming hill-station of Darjeeling, we walk for 6 days on the Singalila Ridge and enjoy tremendous views of Everest, Makalu and Kangchenjunga. We then travel to the atmospheric bazaar town of Kalimpong, before continuing our journey across the border into Bhutan. After a day's sightseeing in the enchantingly peaceful Paro Valley, we set off on the delightful 6-day trek to Chomolhari and the dramatic mountain scenery of west Bhutan. This is a wonderfully varied adventure in a part of the world which is rarely visited. The first of the year's departures - DTB.1 - now concludes with a visit to Agra and the incomparable Taj Mahal.

Trip Guide

This is a combination of 2 unique and exciting treks, which aims to give a comprehensive taste of the available trekking in the ancient kingdom of Sikkim and in Bhutan. The conditions, which will have to be overcome, will range from easy trails, sometimes in forest, to good paths along scenic ridges. There are no glaciers to cross at any time during these separate trekking itineraries. The jeep road runs beside our route for the first 2 days of the walk on the Singalila Ridge and we will be following this, with numerous stepped sections, which cut off the largest of the zigzags taken by the jeep track. The trek to Chomolhari, in Bhutan, is on a very good trail through the beautiful forests of the upper Paro Valley. A day before reaching Chomolhari, the forest clears and we enter open pastureland.
