A fun and challenging mountain bike holiday in the Mount Olympus region of Greece. Rising precipitously above the Aegean Sea, the rocky, many-summited Mount Olympus (2917m/9568ft) is the highest peak in Greece. Known since ancient times as 'the home of the gods', it dominates a rarely-visited region which has an incredible variety of landscapes. Our biking holiday in Greece starts out on the coast initially following a route northwards around the western slopes of Olympus. During the biking day we'll encounter beaches, river deltas, marshes, lush forest, arid rolling terrain, mountain plateaux and alpine peaks. Expect to be biking long ascents followed by big-grin, fast and fluid, utterly engrossing descents. With overnight stops in a succession of distinctly rural villages, we will enjoy tasty Greek mountain cooking at the end of each day we bike and experience a way of life little-changed for centuries. A final day's relaxation on the beach at Platamonas will allow us time to reflect on a perfect bike trip. Memories of the excellent biking, inspiring countryside and hospitable Greek people will be slow to fade.
Ride Guide
FAT TYRE ADVENTURE. The terrain is remote, continuously varied and undulating. While daily distances are modest, it’s virtually all off-road and you can expect full biking days. Ideally suited for progressive riders with a good level of fitness looking for great riding. Whilst there is no vehicle support during the day's riding, our main baggage is transferred between overnight stops. Average 40 km/25 miles per day.
