Sapa MorningThis is an unforgettable adventure holiday combining a trek in northern Vietnam and exploration of Halong Bay from the comfort of a 'junk'. After visitng the beautiful city of Hanoi, we take the sleeper train north to the hill-station of Sapa, on the Chinese border. Five days of adventurous trekking leads us through a verdant landscape, home to unbelievably colourful hill tribes, such as the Hmong, Dao and Tay. Ultimately, we reach the summit of Fansipan (3143m / 10,310ft), the highest mountain in Indochina, with stunning views into China and Laos. Returning to Hanoi, we transfer to the magical waterscape of Halong Bay. A world Heritage site, the stunning scenery of giant limestone towers rising vertically from a sparkling emerald sea is an unforgettable icon of Northern Vietnam. From a base on a traditional wooden junk we have three days to explore this beautiful seascape by boat and kayak, visiting the limestone islets with their many caves. Finally, we have arranged a final celebratory meal at one of Hanoi’s best traditional restaurants as a perfect end to this Vietnamese adventure. With its fascinating history, varied and magnificent scenery, and colourful cultural mix, Vietnam is the ideal adventure destination - fresh, exotic, chaotic, and never dull.

Though quite short, we have given the trekking on this trip the grade of DEMANDING on account of the length of some of the days and the difficulty of the terrain in places. The ascent of Fansipan involves some steep and rocky sections through a jungle landscape. In places the trail can be quite slippery and it is occasionally necessary to pull on branches, tree roots or rocks to make progress. This 'technical' ground together with the high humidity encountered and the moderately high altitudes attained, mean that the ascent of Fansipan will provide an adventurous challenge even for regular hikers.
