Hit the beach - Mountain biking in Costa RicaA wonderful, exotic mountain bike holiday cycling through the tropical paradise of Costa Rica. Pura Vida (great life) is a common saying amongst the people of Costa Rica and this cycling holiday certainly lives up to that, offering excellent biking with that feeling of relaxation too. Starting out beneath Volcano Poas (2704m/8872ft), we have 3 wonderful days of cycling on dirt roads as well as a smattering of singletrack biking, before heading westwards to bike across the central highlands to Volcano Arenal. Here after a days cycling, we can enjoy a beer, soak at the sophisticated Tabacon Hot Springs and marvel at the volcano’s almost continuous lava displays. A challenging climb by bike then takes us to the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, where the spectacular wildlife of Costa Rica includes sloths, monkeys, macaws and toucans. Following a mind-blowing biking descent to the lovely and little-visited Nicoya Peninsula, we experience a final 3 days of idyllic cycling, on and alongside deserted Pacific Ocean beaches. A day at leisure at the lively fishing village of Montezuma, noted for its wild surf and great cocktails, is a fitting finale to this tropical mountain bike holiday adventure in beautiful Costa Rica.

Ride Guide

SEMI SLICK ADVENTURE. For mountain bikes fitted with semi-slick tyres, this is a great trip for riders of different abilities with something for everyone. For the first two thirds of the holiday, we follow quiet backroads and hard packed jeep tracks, with some singletrack trails thrown in - to spice things up. The last part of the trip is unique, biking on the firm sands of the deserted beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula. The support vehicle is on hand most of the time. Average 30 km/19 miles per day.
