Mountain biking above Gorkha - Pokhara to Kathmandu - Stuart HolmesNepal is recognised to be one of the world's great mountain biking destinations and this superb cross-country bike ride, pioneered by KE, is one of our favourites and acknowledged classics. Linking together a maze of remote village paths between Pokhara and Kathmandu, this is a brilliant 2-week mountain biking adventure. Flying to Pokhara, we have a couple of days biking the area's classic routes, including the Kali Horseshoe, with superb views of the Annapurnas and of the beautiful Macchapuchare (Fishtail). We then ride eastwards, via the Marsyangdi and Trisuli valleys and the ridge-top town of Gorkha. As due reward for making the testing, mile-high, climb to the Kathmandu Valley rim, we are treated to the breathtaking panorama of Himalayan peaks from our camp at Kakani. The finale to this superb biking trip is an entertaining downhill blast through the Nagarjun Forest, after which we can celebrate in style in the incomparable Nepalese capital of Kathmandu. With the exception of the one night at Kakani, this trip remains at low altitudes with classic Himalayan off road trails to ride in a very pleasant, warm climate. It is the diversity and uniqueness of this mountain biking adventure that makes it so superb. Stunning scenery, great cycling, and the friendliness of the local people make this an unforgettable experience.

FAT TYRE ADVENTURE. If you love fast cross-country and like to test yourself on back-country trails, this is the ideal ride for you. Suitable for Mountain Bikes fitted with knobbly tyres. Although we are able to bike almost the entire route, there will be some short steep climbs, or sections of stepped pathway, where you will have to carry or push your mountain bike. Generally, the riding conditions are excellent, on broad paths and sometimes on rough jeep roads. There are, however, some great sections of technically demanding single and doubletrack, some tough climbs and some exciting descents. We must stress that apart from the emergency tool kit that you would take on any day ride, you will not be required to carry any luggage. Altitude is not generally a problem as the biking is mainly below the 2000m/6600ft mark. Accumulating over 7000m/23,000ft of ascent and descent, previous off-road experience is essential for maximum enjoyment. The support vehicle cannot generally follow the bikes. Average 40 km/25 miles per day.
