An enchanting walking and safari holiday to Uganda in search of the rare Mountain Gorilla. An encounter with a family of Mountain Gorilla in their forest habitat in Uganda is amongst the most humbling of wildlife experiences. Accompanied by expert safari guides and trackers, we explore the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of these rare and elusive creatures. Although our number one objective is to view the Mountain Gorilla in their natural environment, this exceptional walking and safari holiday also highlights the many other attractions of southern Uganda. From Kampala, we drive through lush farmland and savannah to reach the beautiful crater lakes at the Kibale Forest. We then continue to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here, on the equator, with the snow-capped summits of the Rwenzoris in the distance, our programme of game drives will enable us to see elephant, hippo, lion, leopard, buffalo and many other species. Walking through the Kyambura Gorge, we will also have the chance to spot chimpanzees. After our 2 days at Bwindi, a game drive and some walking at Lake Mburo, with its rich birdlife, brings to a close what can only be described as 'a wildlife spectacular' walking and safari adventure holiday to Uganda.
This is a wildlife-viewing holiday and is not intended to be a long or sustained trek. We will have a single day in the Kibale Forest tracking chimpanzees. Typically, we might walk for 2 to 3 hours on this day on easy forest trails. On 2 further days, we will trek into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of gorillas and other wildlife. Depending on how long it takes to locate the family group of gorillas, we may have just a short walk or an extended hike through the undergrowth of the rainforest. The terrain here is hilly and undulating and can also be rough and muddy. At times, we will follow forest trails and at other times there will be no path to follow. Travelling across Uganda and completing several game drives in safari vehicles, will involve some longish days on sometimes rough roads.
